Basics

A stablecoin is a token designed to hold a steady value — almost always pegged 1:1 to the US dollar, so one coin is meant to always be worth about $1. On Solana they settle in seconds for a fraction of a cent, which makes them useful for payments, savings, and trading without the price swings of SOL or BTC.
Both target $1, but they’re run by different companies. USDC is issued by Circle, a US-regulated firm that publishes monthly attestations and holds reserves in cash and short-term US Treasuries. USDT (Tether) is the largest and most widely traded stablecoin globally, but historically less transparent about its reserves.
