Basics

A stablecoin is a token designed to hold a steady value — almost always pegged 1:1 to the US dollar, so one coin is meant to always be worth about $1. On Solana they settle in seconds for a fraction of a cent, which makes them useful for payments, savings, and trading without the price swings of SOL or BTC.
Both target $1, but they’re run by different companies. USDC is issued by Circle, a US-regulated firm that publishes monthly attestations and holds reserves in cash and short-term US Treasuries. USDT (Tether) is the largest and most widely traded stablecoin globally, but historically less transparent about its reserves. Both are Solana token standards. SPL Token is the original, used by USDC and most older coins.
